Philippines, Tarlac, February 12, 2014 - Energy Department Senior Assistant Secretary, Daniel A. Ariaso today inaugurated a DuPont solar power project at its DuPont Pioneer production plant located at Tarlac (“the Plant”) , to help meet energy needs at the Plant, in line with the company’s aim to help meet the global energy challenge, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Once installation on the Plant’s rooftop is complete, the solar panels are expected to generate approximately 194,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity in their first year, and offset approximately 193,418 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. The arrangement for the installation was made through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with predetermined rates with Exergy Philippines (“Exergy”), and Engineering, Procurement and Construction project turnkey developer, Solenergy Systems Inc., which was commissioned to design, install and maintain the system to help provide electricity for the Plant.

“DuPont continues to grow as a leading specialty materials supplier to the solar energy industry, and as a consumer of solar power,” said Ramon S. Abadilla, managing director, DuPont Far East Inc. Philippines. “The collaboration with Exergy and Solenergy is a significant milestone for DuPont Philippines and lays a strong foundation to accelerate the use of solar energy in the country.”

This represents the thirteenth solar installation on DuPont land to date, bringing the total energy output generated from solar panels on DuPont facilities to 4,800,000 kilowatt hours per year.

“We are very pleased to have solar panels on the DuPont Pioneer rooftop, generating clean, sustainable renewable energy for the site operations,” said Jet Marcial Parma, ASEAN / Pakistan business director, DuPont Pioneer. “The use of solar power can very effectively help offset high electricity rates. We were pleased to work closely with Exergy and Solenergy to make this project a success.”

The solar energy collaboration is aligned with The Philippines’ National Renewable Energy Program (“NREP”) to drive the national economy and build up national energy security needs and the over-riding goal of providing clean, affordable and sustainable energy for all.  The NREP seeks to increase the renewable energy-based capacity of the country to an estimated 15,304 MW by the year 2030, almost triple its 2010 level.
