Sustainable Automotive Fuel System Technologies
Permeation rates and material performance in conventional and biofuels are critical to meeting emissions regulations and reducing fossil fuel dependence. Our expertise in fuel storage and delivery systems and biofuel knowledge help automakers meet these challenges.
Our materials for automotive fuel system technologies and components offer long-life performance despite exposure to aggressive fuels, helping automakers cost-effectively meet emissions regulations and increase fuel efficiency. Our biofuels technologies help reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Fuel System Design: DuPont offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of materials for fuel system components, including elastomers, fluoropolymers, fluoroelastomers and thermoplastics. These materials free engineers from metal’s design constraints while reducing weight and vapor emissions.
Sustainability: DuPont materials cost-effectively reduce permeation and resist attack from conventional fuels and aggressive biofuels to help meet emissions regulations, reduce fossil fuel dependence and improve reliability.
Biofuels: We have a joint venture with BP to develop biobutanol, which has a 25% higher energy density than ethanol, can be blended into conventional gasoline at higher concentrations, and can be used in existing vehicles. We are also advancing enzyme technologies to help enable cost-effective ethanol.
Alternative Drive: DuPont’s expertise in fundamental material science and electrochemistry helps the industry develop fuel cells.
